Making Mom Friends and Baby Friends: Post COVID-19 Edition

Having a baby during this time has been crazy. My baby Serena was born in July 2020, and as the one year mark approaches, I can definitely say we’ve been through a lot together! One thing that I had a tough time figuring out in the beginning was making friends during the pandemic (and more importantly, baby friends for my daughter Serena!) It was crazy because a lot of people were in different places in regards to social interactions given the pandemic. Now, people are also slowly evolving and adapting to changes as vaccines roll out and cases start going down. So, here are some overall tips on how to make mom friends and baby friends! Your comfort level will determine what is the best way to go about trying some of these ideas, so do what you feel is right for you and your baby!

  • Go for a walk outside with your baby
    • It’s good to give your baby some fresh air and it’s a good workout too! Try to walk around your local neighborhood or community if you have one…you might bump into some neighbor friends who would be interested in walking with you and they may also have babies as well! This was the first step I took in getting Serena out and about and was able to meet other moms in my community!
    • If you don’t have a community/neighborhood to walk in, then go to a local park nearby! There are lots of moms and kids around and usually they are pretty open and friendly!
  • Join Mommy and Me classes
    • This was a great way to make mommy friends around the area, and the good part is all the babies are usually around the same age! I joined a few mommy and me music classes (shoutout to Miss Amy’s music) as outdoor classes that were fun and Serena made long lasting baby friends in these classes. There are so many different types of mommy and me classes you can try! Some are music or dancing oriented, others can be through a religious group or affiliation. There are also mommy and me workout classes where you can use your baby as weights and push your strollers for a fun workout!
    • The best way to find these classes are through google, Facebook groups (I joined a lot of south Florida mom Facebook groups) or word of mouth (one of my neighbor friends who I met on my walks got me into one of my music mommy and me’s). The main thing is to get out there and really show interest in getting involved!

  • Join a kids gym!
    • There are a lot of indoor gyms that offer classes catered to different babies ages. They are a comfortable and fun way for the babies (especially as they start crawling and walking) to get their energies out and develop new skills! My baby Serena just started doing this at around 9/10 months and loves it! We go to the Little Gym near us but there are so many options for gyms like this. There’s My Gym, Wow Moms World, Little Gym, Barrel of Monkeys to name a few near me! I’m sure there’s a ton near you also depending on your location. That is just a quick google search away!

  • Join an app – Peanut, Bumble BFF, Social Mama to name a few
    • These apps are a great way to make mom friends! Some of them like Peanut are catered specifically to only mom’s/soon to be moms in the area that you can match with and talk to! This is great way to meet people you might not otherwise meet on a regular day! Once you get to know someone on there then you can coordinate and try to arrange play dates with each other to get the kids to meet!

A great and easy way to get involved is to put you and your baby out there (safely!), and you’ll soon enough start making mom friends and friends for your little one! I’m glad to say Serena has made some of her best baby friends from these different ways so I hope that it can be of help to you too! Do you have any other ideas on how to make mom friends? Great article! These are great ways to meet other moms and baby friends! Another way is to reach out to other moms you may know and ask them if they know of any mom groups or friends that have kids similar in age they can connect you with. Sometimes having a referral makes the process a little easier! 🙂

Yes! Referral definitely helps so much! 🙂 Especially when trying to join mommy and me classes or arranging play dates with other new moms!
