My toddler Serena is 16 months old this month! After getting lots of toys for her 1st birthday and beyond, I can definitely say that I have been through so many toys for this 1-2 year old age group!
Here are a list of some of her favorites:

- Role Playing Toys / Water Table – I put both of this type of toy on the list together for a couple of reasons. Both of these types of toys are larger and have many parts to them, which allows for variety and also makes for the perfect toys to have for playdates! At first, when I was introduced to the concept of a water table I was like “hmm okay, what’s so great about it?!” But now, after having many play dates with one, I understand that it is a toy that kids really do enjoy! I got one for Serena for her birthday and it’s a great toy that many kids can play with at the same time! This comes in handy especially when you don’t feel like running to a park, splash pad or beach! I also have the Fisher Price Food truck you can find at Amazon or Target. It is great because it is indoor play, which means no wet mess to clean up later! It keeps Serena entertained for hours by herself and whenever Serena’s friends come over all the kids love it!
- Cute girly toys, like a purse set or tea set – this category Serena definitely has a few of, between the Melissa and Doug purse set to the Fisher Price talking tea set. Personally Serena prefers the toys that talk back to her, so she tends to use the talking tea set a lot. But she also likes variety, so I suggest getting both, this Fisher Price talking tea & purse set, or some products that are similar. If you have a boy, they also have the equivalent boyish toys like this talking tool box kit, etc! I def suggest getting your toddler a few for variety!
- Stacking toys – since Serena was a baby, she always loved toys that you can stack and pull apart to make a little mess on the floor 😉 She loves the Fisher Price Giant Rock A Stack. She used to have the smaller version of this toy as a baby but now as a toddler she loves the large one to play with. Definitely any type of stacking toys are great to have, as long as you’re okay with having to mostly clean up after. I’m hoping that will change soon as Serena is starting to learn more about clean up!
- Riding/walker toy – Serena has a few of these! One that she really loved she got from a close friend of mine and its called the Radio Flyer Busy Buggy. She loves riding it! Now that she’s walking she tends to be over the walker toys as much and prefers to ride things!
- Non toys, like sealed or empty water bottles lol. I don’t know why but sometimes I feel like the best toys are not actually toys at all! Serena can spend hours playing with a water bottle! I don’t know why, but since she loves it so much it deserves a spot on this list. I’m sure your child also has that one or a few inanimate objects that’s not a toy that they love to play with!
Those are Serena’s top 5 favorite toys! Does your one year old have a favorite toddler toy? Let me know in the comments 🙂
