DIY Halloween Costume Ideas for the Eleventh Hour

It’s officially Halloween week and you still haven’t figured out a costume. Your Amazon options are slim and shipping charges/return policies for many of the costume shops just aren’t favorable.
No worries! Making a DIY costume is easier than you think! Here are 6 quick and easy costume ideas that will have you all set for the 31st. Plus, you’ll have the added benefit of wearing something unique. Many of these work for the little ones too!
I have added my own pics to show just how easy this is.

Día de los Muertos/ Day of the Dead

You can wear a long black maxi dress or long black skirt with a black top. Any black or red shoes work. Buy some artificial red flowers (dollar tree always has them!!) and wrap with wire to a headband -all available at the store for $1-yay! If you happen to own a fringe or lace shawl-or even a tablecloth-throw it on your shoulders! If not, it is not a necessary element of the costume. Feel free to layer on anything lace in red or black while you’re at it! Paint your face-plenty of great tutorials online or search Pinterest images!

Geisha

This one is mostly hair & make up. If you have a silky looking robe (or can borrow one) you are all set! Just wrap and belt the robe sash or add a black belt if you don’t have it. Don your flip-flops. Tease hair and put in a bun add chopsticks if you have them-these were from a recent takeout order. Add dollar store flowers (or pick a couple fresh ones from your neighborhood) for your hair. Kon’nichiwa!

Gypsy

Grab a long skirt and pair with a poet style top and vest if you have one. Add a thick leather belt-you can always borrow from the hubs 😉 Add boots, hat and hoop earrings and you’re all set. You can add a scarf tied around the hips or head for extra flair! If you have bangle bracelets, wear them all!!

Hippie

All you need is a short or maxi patterned dress or a paisley, floral, tie dye or bohemian style shirt paired with flared jeans. Sandals or boots for footwear. Top with a vest if you have one then add a floppy hat or a flower crown (hello dollar store!), or wear your hair long and loose, maybe add some braids. Anything peace sign, silver or turquoise if you have it.

Peace!

Punk rocker

Grab a denim or leather jacket, vintage looking graphic/band tee and pair with skinny jeans or leggings and black boots or converse. Knot a plaid shirt around your waist if you have one. Then just go heavy on the eye makeup and hair teasing! Bonus for blush stripes! I went Mommy and Me on this one. For her, Christmas pajama pants, my workout top & belt, Cat & Jack shoes. Check out the puff ponytail faux mohawk!

Zombie

This may be the easiest of all! All you really need is fake blood, cheap halloween makeup (white & black) and clothes you’re willing to destroy!! Cut several small holes in a shirt (I love a basic white tee!) and bottoms and tear the rest of the way. Black around eyes, cheekbones and mouth then smear. Rub in some white and black randomly to arms and exposed skin. Apply fake blood liberally to clothing and face. Tease and make an absolute mess of your hair.
Fun tip-This one is even better in a group!!

Zombie Crawl

These were all last minute DIY costumes from past years. (And believe it or not, they have been some of my favorite costumes!)

If you feel something will enhance your costume, layer it on. It’s Halloween… MORE is MORE! Hope this inspires you to create your own costume this year & put together something special and budget friendly. Happy Halloween!
